Warshing Clothes!

Did you ever have one of those days when it seems nothing goes right? The other day my mop broke! I don't think I've had it that long, maybe 8 or 10 years. Shouldn't they last longer than that? So I headed to my local favorite store and purchased a new one. When I was going to try it out the next day, it was too wide to fit in my bucket. So the next day I purchased a new bucket. Boy, was I feeling sorry for myself. I was trying to get the house cleaned while I was doing laundry and usually this can all be done on one day. When I was feeling sorry for myself, I was reminded by a friend of how it used to be....something I have NEVER had to do...
We are so lucky in this day and age! Here is an actual "recipe" for washing clothes...

WARSHING CLOTHES

Build fire in backyard to heat kettle of rain water. Set tubs so smoke wont blow in eyes if wind is pert. Shave one hole cake of lie soap in boilin water.

Sort things, make 3 piles

1 pile white,

1 pile colored,

1 pile work britches and rags.

To make starch, stir flour in cool water to smooth, then thin down with boiling water.

Take white things, rub dirty spots on board, scrub hard, and boil, then rub colored don't boil just wrench and starch.

Take things out of kettle with broom stick handle, then wrench, and starch.

Hang old rags on fence.

Spread tea towels on grass.

Pore wrench water in flower bed. Scrub porch with hot soapy water.

Turn tubs upside down.

Go put on clean dress, smooth hair with hair combs. Brew cup of tea, sit and rock a spell and count your blessings.

Amen!
