Feeding the Birds

Last weekend my Dad asked me..."do you feed the birds?" Well of course we do. I like to have nice looking feeders right outside my window so I can see the birds up close...close enough to snap photos from inside, so I don't have to walk outside when it's cold. In fact, I can hear them when they approach and the pair of downy woodpeckers we have always announce their arrival.

Now my husband has a slightly different concept of how to feed the birds. His method is quite effective, efficient, and most importantly, cost effective. Last fall after shooting and butchering his deer, he simply hung the carcus in a tree. Knowing how I love to watch the birds from the house, he was kind enough to select the precise location to be viewed from my kitchen window. I must admit, the birds have been loving it. It's been more than 3 months, and they have almost picked it clean, as you can see from this photo I snapped yesterday. My only requirement is...once the snow melts, it comes down! Happy Feeding!
