well since it's raining....

Ok, since it's raining and I'm forced back inside, I'll take a long-overdue moment to update my blog.  I would much rather spend time in the garden, in fact, that's what I've been mostly focusing on this spring.  Because of the early spring, I really got a good start on cleaning, weeding, and rearranging plants.  It's always a time factor isn't it?  It seems like everyone I talk to is stretching themselves to the limit and always running out of time.  Do we ever stop, get a cup of coffee and sit and think?  Reflect on our lives, how lucky we are, or how it could be worse?  I am reminded daily by girlfriends fighting the cancer battle, even Eddie is wearing a bracelet for a classmates mom.  So everyday I try to find a slice of time, even if I'm driving, to just cherish our lives right now and thank God that we are happy and healthy.  And that time also lets me prioritize...sometimes I have to make tough choices just to maintain balance...like joining the church council, then discovering it's a bit more than I thought...(3 board seats is a too much...) and deciding to resign from my board seat on KAXE, Northern Community Radio.  It was a very tough decision, but 4 years on the board was enough to feel like I've made some accomplishments, and I now turn my attentions to other projects.  I will truly miss being on the KAXE board, but it's not like I'm going away - I've always volunteered behind the scenes at KAXE.  I first became involved in helping to design the sculpture park along the river when they were building their new station, and ended up not only facilitating the design team, but became actively involved in creating the cement mosiac sculptures, which has become a very new artistic venture for me.  (In fact this coming weekend, I will be working with a master sculpture artist in Wisconsin and am very excited.  Stay tuned, I'm sure I'll have something to say about that adventure!)  So last weekend was the annual meeting for KAXE Northern Community Radio and I was very surprised, and honored, to receive the "Debbie Lentz Silent Star, Behind-the-Scenes" Volunteer of the Year award!  I was absolutely speechless and nearly in tears, and so remained "silent" as the plaque says...but I am truly humbled to be honored.  And who says recognition is overrated?  Sure feels good now as I sit with my coffee, watching the rain giving my thirsty perennials a much needed drink.
